Choosing The Best Airsoft Guns

By Anthony Carter

There are as many types and styles of Airsoft guns as there are real guns made. Most airsoft guns are exact replicas of real weapons. They are used by the military in training exercises because of the realism. There a individuals around the world that regularly play Airsoft and attend contests for this game.

The older Airsoft guns were made of plastic with metal casings. As the demand for more realistic weaponry rose, manufacturers began making the guns out of metal and added weight to resemble the feel of the weapon that the gun represented. A person who find an interest in Airsoft guns may be a collector or a player. Many of the guns that are collected would not be appropriate in an Airsoft game because they do not have the velocity, distance, or mag capacity of the guns used during play.

Just as with a real firearm, the type of airsoft guns that a person selects will greatly depend on which type of Airsoft game they will be playing. The most common Airsoft games are the Open Day games or Skirmishes. These games can be played by a group of friends who know each other or by individuals who form a group at an Airsoft field.

Automatic Electric Guns (AEGs) are the gun that is used most often in open play. The range and velocity of the guns can be increased using a hop-up unit. The hop-up unit makes the bb spin faster from the barrel and increases the distance of the bb from its standard 250 feet to up to 75 feet farther.

AEGs are a battery operated gun. Some of these guns run on batteries as small as four AA batteries. They have several add-ons that make them a more realistic. Electric blow back allows the gun to recoil just as the real weapon would. In addition some of the guns are equipped to make the same noise as a bb exiting a chamber and send up a puff of smoke when the bb is dispersed.

Many people find that playing Airsoft is a game of athleticism and strategy. They enjoy the challenge of meeting a target or objective in full battle. Individuals who are first being introduced to the game often find that they can rent an AEG from the field where play is taking place. By renting different guns an individual can find the gun that fits their needs without having to purchase a gun first.

The only hybrid airsoft guns currently on the market are very inexpensive and are not scaled to replicate the guns they are representing. They are available in the M44, AK-series, and others. It has also been noted that these guns have a tendency to jam.

When a person is considering entering the Airsoft sport it is important that they receive safety training in the use of these guns. They must be handled responsibly and treated with respect just as with a real gun.

The cost of the guns varies tremendously based on the type of gun that one wants, the options that are added, the type of use the gun will get, and the time that will be spent on the field of play. Many individuals starting choose to rent an AEG at the Airsoft field until they become comfortable with using an Airsoft gun and have found the gun that they prefer. - 31409
