Zhu Zhu Pets - Are You Getting Into The Latest Toy Craze ?

By Ledley Withenshaw

There have been many toy crazes over the last few years, all of them seemingly a little more complex than the last. The reason for this is that technology itself is growing at such an incredible rate that toys these days are just getting more realistic and cool to have. This year is no different with the introduction of Zhu Zhu Pets.

These adorable little toys are made in the image of the average hamster, but without all the upkeep. They look and feel as though they are real, live hamsters, and yet they do not require being fed and watered. Best of all, the hamster will never die, so long as you continue to replace his batteries.

But what makes it worth the money? Live hamsters themselves can be found for as little as 8-9 dollars a piece, but the abundance of accessories to make a play land for them can get costly in a hurry. Certainly anyone can see the perk of not having to clean cages or replace food and water every day, but many are concerned with the educational values of this type of toy. These people believe that the kids aren't learning real responsibility to care for an animal, when it never dies or needs any cleaning up after.

Young children often have a tough time adjusting to having a pet in general, no matter how badly they may want one. This is how your Zhu Zhu pet could come in handy. Consider allowing your little one to "take care of" their Zhu Zhu for a while and perhaps they can learn some attention to detail that is required to raise a pet. This toy will never be a real, breathing animal, but It still serves a pretty useful purpose.

A point to be made is that not all kids are ready to have pets. Take for example a two year old who loves an older friend's or sibling's hamster and always wants to play with it. A parent may not feel in good conscience that getting the child a hamster is the right thing because a very young child is simply not able to properly care for one. The same child, however, care for a Zhu Zhu Pet without any fear of it being hurt or dying.

The Zhu Zhu pet is programmed to make it sound and act like a real hamster. From sporadic movements to real hamster sounds, this is the next best thing to actually having a hamster. There are two different modes that the hamster can be in, loving mode and exploring mode. Loving mode allows kids to be able to hold the hamster and have it respond to their touches. Exploring mode allows it to head off and explore on its own, much like a real hamster would do.

While it may true that Zhu Zhu pets are destined to be a passing flash in the pan like many others before it, they're still wildly popular. Whatever your view on fads or if you don't like real hamsters, or maybe your kids aren't ready for real pets, they all are ready for a Zhu Zhu Pet as evidenced by the hundreds of thousands that have already been sold. - 31409
