By Ginnie Wilburn

Often trying to decide what would make the best Christmas toy for your child can be a real struggle. Children many times have a huge wish list filled with the hottest and most popular toys. No doubt commercialism has a big impact on your child's wish list.

Children are all different with varying lifestyles. As a result of this, what could be considered the best Christmas toy for one child may not be a good choice for another child. However the one thing you can count on is that when a child opens up their Christmas gift and they are filled with happiness, then you have made a great choice.

You can find a huge variety of toys when doing your Christmas shopping. These three tips are to help you in selecting the right toy for your child:

1. Choose a toy that is age appropriate for your child. It is a good idea to follow the manufacture's recommendation for appropriate ages for their toy. But as with most things, exceptions do exist.

The development of children varies in regard to their social, physical, creative and emotional growth and skill levels. Because of this, the suggested age recommendations are only guidelines. If the toy is one you believe would be a good choice for your child even though the age recommendation does not exactly line up with your child's age, don't let this prevent you from choosing the toy.

2. Just because a toy maybe popular, this doesn't make it the best Christmas toy for your child. Often when a toy is related to a certain hobby, interest or collection of a child, then this is many times the best choice.

Here is an example to help you in selecting the best Christmas toy for your child. Your child has a special interest in trains. Then they would probably be thrilled with a train set, maybe a train simulator video game or a big train poster for their room. These would make great gift ideas for a best Christmas gift for a child interested in trains.

3. Make it a point to always choose toys that are well constructed and durable. Nothing is sadder than seeing a child shed tears on Christmas because they broke their new toy. Although no toy is indestructible, durability is very important. If a toy cannot hold up to your child's play then it simply is not a good toy to choose. - 31409
